Intra Multi-Des GA is one of the disinfectants from the Intra Hygiene programme of Intrahorti. The product is already used extensively in livestock farming and is also available for the horticultural sector.

Algae is a well-known organism which can grow very rapidly and can cause all kinds of problems. There are many different species of algae. It usually concerns a group of relatively simple organisms which, just like plants, use photosynthesis to grow. Seaweed is a type of algae which is multicellular and is larger than for example the well-known green substance caused by a unicellular algae. Most algae use sunlight energy and feel at home in a warmer and humid surrounding. The climate in a greenhouse is therefore the ideal climate for algae and excessive algae growth in greenhouses is therefore no exception.

Algae can cause a lot of problems in greenhouses. Algae is a source for pathogens which have cause diseases in your crops. Algae growth on floors causes slippery surfaces which form danger for staff and other persons. Algae growth also causes silting of the root cloth. This decreases the water permeability of the root cloth resulting in decreased water drainage. Besides all that, the excessive growth causes a pile up of algae which forms a thick layer of infection source that causes nutrient losses.

Intrahorti has tested the effect of Intra Multi-Des GA on algae in greenhouses. With excellent results. Multi-Des GA is not only capable to efficiently eliminate algae and prevent new growth, the product is capable to do this with a very low dosage. A 2% Multi-Des GA concentration is sufficient to clean the algae covered surfaces like concrete tiles and ground cover with an effect for many months. Competitor products use a minimum dosage of 6%, and therefor these products are often quite expensive. So besides a very effective algae control, Intra Multi-Des GA also saves money.

Intra Multi-Des GA is a disinfectant based on glutaraldehyde and quaternary ammonium compounds. The product has a biocide registration for disinfection of surfaces and a biocide registration for algae treatment. Intra Multi-Des GA eliminates algae by damaging and breaking through the algae cell wall. This process kills the algae. Intra Multi-Des GA is developed to reach optimum hygiene standards by adequate disinfection with a low as possible concentration. The biocide registration number of Multi-Des GA in the Netherlands is 13969N. The product has an approval for the biocide class; PT02.
